Open positions

  • As the head of the executive committee, our President assumes a pivotal role in the society's operations, balancing day-to-day management with the strategic direction. Key responsibilities encompass shaping the speaker lineup and cultivating a robust network of contacts to enrich our events, alongside coordinating logistics and engaging stakeholders for potential partnerships and collaborations within and beyond Oxford University.

  • The Secretary is essential to supporting and facilitating all Society activities. The Secretary is effectively the second in command following the President, and acts to support the President as well as being responsible for overseeing adherence with the Proctors’ regulations. The Secretary will engage in administrative tasks such as taking minutes, as well as assisting to produce a term card, organise venues, and finalise speakers.

  • The Treasurer plays a key role in the society, managing society finances and seeking new opportunities for its growth. Key responsibilities include overseeing the society budget, regularly updating the committee on the society’s finances and seeking and managing funding opportunities and partnerships.

  • The Deputy Treasurer assists the Treasurer in all their duties, including supporting work on budgets, audits, financial decisions, and new and existing partnerships. They also attend Executive Committee meetings alongside the Treasurer.

  • Our Communications Secretary is in charge of running our social media channels, advertising events, and communicating with our members as well as the university community more broadly. They will have freedom to create their own social media strategy, and will maintain close contact with the President and Secretary to ensure subscription to events and the society more broadly.

  • The Deputy Communications Secretary assists the Communications Secretary in all their duties, including maintenance of the society‘s social media presence, event advertisement and website content creation and maintenance. They also attend Executive Committee meetings alongside the Communications Secretary.

  • Our Social Secretary’s main responsibility is running our flagship event, Rum and Realpolitik, which attracts over 100 members each term. The Social Secretary will liaise with the President, Secretary, Treasurer and Events Officers in order to ensure the success of the event. The Social Secretary is also responsible for organising external trips to think tanks and embassies for members of the society, allowing them to develop close relations with the policy world. We also encourage the Social Secretary to develop other social events for the society at their discretion.

Don’t see a position that interests you? We also select events officers and other non-elected roles at the start of each academic year. Check back in Michaelmas 2024 for more information.
